MIDWAY Ky. - Midway celebrated senior day with the fourth-highest scoring game in program history and a guaranteed spot in the River States Conference Tournament, as the Eagles cruised to a 110-81 win over Indiana Columbus in men's basketball Saturday.
Midway held a brief ceremony for seniors
Decoreio Smith and
Blake Warner before the game, with Smith turning around and having a major hand in the blowout victory.
The Crimson Pride came out strong, building a 9-3 lead before Midway's speed and pressure overwhelmed them. The Eagles responded with a 13-0 run, with eight of those points coming on the fast break.
The Midway defense forced a season-best 23 turnovers, which led to 32 points. The Eagles' 18 steals produced many of their 40 fast-break points.
Six different players scored in double figures, with Midway starting guards all having hyper-efficient games.Â
Amari Wales had 25 points, Smith had 20 and
Sam Parrish 17. All three players shot 64 percent or better, with Wales making 9-of-11 from the field, Smith making 8-of-10 and Parrish making 7-of-11.
Parrish and Smith were active passers as well, netting seven and five assists respectively.
Breland Morrison added 13 points and tied Wales for the team lead with three steals off the bench. Starting bigs
Dontavius King and
Maurice Washington Williams were also in double-figures with 12 and 11 points.
The 110-points are the most by an Eagle team since a 114-93 win over Wilberforce
on Noc. 17, 2023. It also clinched them a spot in the RSC Tournament, which they missed a season ago.
Back to .500 overall at 12-12, Midway remains in a second-place-tie in the RSC East Division with Rio Grande, after the Red Storm defeated Indiana Kokomo 94-71 Saturday. With two games remaining in the regular season, both teams are 9-5 in league play.
The Eagles begin the last week of the regular season with a road game at West Virginia Tech Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
