Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Having gone through a murderer's row of early season games, the Midway men's basketball team was ready to pounce against a beatable opponent Friday night.
Jalen Cincore continued his hot start to the season with 29 points and eight rebounds, leading a group of five double-figure scorers as Midway blew past Wilberforce (Ohio) 114-93 to earn its first win since the opening night of the season.
The 2-4 Eagles have topped 100 points in both of their wins. The 114 points they scored Friday are tied for the second most in a single game in program history.
Fresh off a 21-point, nine-rebound effort in an 82-70 loss to NCAA Division I opponent Tennessee Tech the night prior, Cincore picked up right where he left off with an 18-point first half in which he shot 7-of-9 from the field.
It was the third 20-point effort of the young season for Cincore, who has reached double-figures in every game he's played in a Midway uniform.
He wasn't the only Eagle to reach 20 points, as Donnie Miller had 23.
Tim Fuller (18 points, 7-of-10 shooting), Tobias Thompson (16, 5-of-6) and Robbie Henry (10, 4-of-4) were also in double figures with all five players shooting at least 57 percent from the floor for a Midway team that made 65.1 percent of its field goal attempts.
Thompson also secured himself a double-double, grabbing 12 rebounds for an Eagle team that held a 45-29 edge on the glass. Henry supplemented his perfect night shooting with a game-high six assists.
Friday was a nice bounce back for Midway, which has faced a string on D-I and highly ranked NAIA opponents since opening the year with a 109-69 win over Virginia Lyynchburg.
Though the Eagles' record will stay the same for the next 12 days, that stretch will be anything but easy, as they prepare for three exhibitions against NCAA Division-I opponents in the span of three days, beginning with an 8 p.m. matchup against Tennessee State on Monday.
