OXFORD, Ohio - Kaitlyn Howe's first weekend of competition at Midway couldn't have gone much better, as the Eagle western team grabbed a pair of high-point finishes at the Miami (Ohio) University Shows.
A grand total of six Midway riders qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Western Regionals whileÂ
Allison Kratzer was high-point rider on the opening day.
SATURDAY
The highlight of Kratzer's day came in level-two ranch riding, where she finished in first place.
She was also second in level-two horsemanship, coming in behind teammate
Kaylee Klein, who was one of three of Midway's regional qualifiers on day one.
The other two qualifications came in level-one horsemanship by
Stacey Geissler and
Audrey Mosby, who finished second in the event.
Also getting a first-place finish was
Zaida Wondrash, who claimed the top spot in beginner horsemanship.
Other runners-up were
Alana Utlak (open horsemanship) and
Elizabeth Ulbricht (rookie horsemanship). One spot behind Ulbricht in rookie were teammates
Emily Sue Watts and
Courtney Donovan.
SUNDAY
Ulbricht,
Isabel Billings and
Lauren Arens-Ennis earned regional spots and first-place showings Sunday.
Ulbricht and Billings finished atop rookie horsemanship standings, with Arens-Enis winning level-one horsemanship.
All told, the Eagles had five first-place finishes Sunday. Kratzer again took first in level-two horsemanship with Klein winning open horsemanship.
Runners-up were
Tate Gill (open horsemanship),
Sofia Getty (level-two horsemanship) and
Trayton Stargel (beginner horsemanship).
Ciera Estep, Watts and Wondrash were third in rookie A, Rookie B and beginner horsemanship respectively.
Midway is off next week before returning for another Miami University Show on Feb. 21-22. This will be the final tune-up before the IHSA Western Regionals on Feb. 28.
