GEORGETOWN, Ky – Despite leading into the halfway mark of the second half, Georgetown (0-1-1,0-0 Mid South) battles back to Draw Midway (0-0-1, 0-0 River States) 1-1 in Wednesday night's non-conference showdown at Toyota Stadium.
George Spencer opened up the scoring 3 minutes into the second half on a cross into the box, leading to a Spencer kick into the bottom left corner of the goal.
A penalty kick from Logan Anderson is all the Tigers needed to tie the match up.
Both teams had great chances to pull ahead late, but neither could finish with a goal. Spencer almost doubled Midway's lead in the 61st minute with a 27-yard shot that just missed high left of the goal. Georgetown's Rodrigo Dominguez had two great opportunities in the final minute with headers that ended up being blocked by Eagles defenders.
Georgetown always kept the pressure. They had the most opportunities in the match, outshooting the Eagles 5-3 at the end of the first half, and they continued that dominance, finishing with 14 shots to Midway's 10 at the end of the match.
Spencer started off the match hot, getting an opportunity in the 17th minute from 18 yards out that was saved by Lukas Steiner. He had a team-high 3 shots in the match.
Sorrell finished with 3 saves on 4 shots including a point blank save in the 89th minute off an Anderson shot.
The Tigers were reduced to 10 men within the minute of Spencer's opening goal with a Carl Gustavsson red card.
With the draw, Midway is now 0-0-1 and Georgetown 0-1-1.
