ATLANTA - Kasey Cameron's 14-over par helps Midway secure a third-place performance at the Eagles Open at City Club Marietta on Tuesday afternoon.
"Kasey had another great week," says Coach Otis on Cameron's performance. "Always can count on pretty consistent results from her."
The Eagles finished third place out of seven teams, scoring an 118-over par, 970. They struggled out of the first round, finishing 44-over par, but were able to bounce back in the second round, shooting 34-over par, the second-best score of the round.
"Team played well first time out this season," Coach Otis said. "3rd place not a bad finish in first tournament, but I do wish we could have held on to 2nd."
Cameron also had a strong second round, shooting a 73 (+2). She was named on the All-Tournament team and had the fourth best score of the tournament.
An 85 (+14) in the third round was enough for the Dalton State Roadrunners to secure the first-place finish. They shot a 58-over par across the three rounds. A strong third round by Bethel (TN), 22-over par, was enough to put them ahead of Midway for second place, with a 957.
Sophomores Anna Simpson and Reese Romer were Midway's next best performers. Simpson shot a 242 (+29) to tie 14th place. Romer shot an 85 (+14) in the third round to end the tournament tied for 23rd. This was her first road tournament of her college career.
"Want to send a lot of praises to Reese "Cup" Romer on her outstanding play," Coach Otis said. "She has made a huge improvement from last year and she put in the work over the summer and it is paying off."
Freshman Ella Anderson shot an 88 (+17) in the third round of her first college tournament.
The Eagles next tournament is the Wildcat Fall Invite Sept. 7-8 in West Lafayette, Indiana.
