HOWELL, MI. -- Despite a first-half goal from each team, Midway and Cleary University battled to a 1-1 draw in Friday afternoon's non-conference match at Lake Trust Stadium.
Brayden Leger's first career goal was Midway's (0-1-2, 0-1 RSC) only goal of the match. He headed the ball from 20 yards out to put it in the bottom left corner of the goal. Rhys Dickson got the assist from his corner kick.
Seven minutes later, Cleary (1-4-1, 0-0 WHAC) answered right back. Austin Dyson scored a header in the 16th minute off an Oscar Clarke free kick.
The Eagles had an opportunity to answer right back in the 23rd minute. A header from Rhys Dickson into the bottom left corner of the net was saved by Felix Robert. In the 30th minute, Midway got another chance to break the tie. Miles Ezell shot the ball on goal point blank, but was saved by Robert, which led to a corner kick.
The Cougars thought they scored the go-ahead goal two times in the first half. In the 25th minute, a goal was called back because they were offside. Then they thought they scored again, but they couldn't beat the time, and the clock ran out right before the ball went in.
Dickson, Leger, and George Spencer had a team-high two shots for the Eagles. Connor Vincent had a match-high five saves.
Cleary put pressure on the Eagles at the end of both halves. In the 45th minute, an Avery Bryan shot to the top middle of the net was saved by an outstretched Vincent. Atario Brown had two opportunities to be the hero in the final minute. One was saved by Vincent and the other was blocked.
In the 58th minute, Andres Caro's left foot kick from 30 yards out almost broke the tie, but he just missed high and right.
The Eagles move to 0-1-2 on the season.
