MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway men's soccer returns to Midway Turf Field on Tuesday afternoon as the Eagles welcome Transylvania for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
It's been a slow start for the Eagles in 2026 as they enter Tuesday's contest with an 0-2-1 record and are still searching for their first victory of the campaign.
Midway has found the back of the net twice through its first three contests. George Spencer scored the Eagles' first goal of the season against Georgetown, while Brayden Leger found the back of the net in last Wednesday's 1-1 draw against Cleary.
Head coach Stu Riddle has given both of his goalkeepers opportunities in the early portion of the season, and Connor Vincent took full advantage of his first start of the campaign last week.
Vincent recorded five saves against Cleary, including a crucial stop in the 89th minute that helped the Eagles secure the draw. For his performance, the senior was named the River States Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Transylvania enters Tuesday's matchup with a 3-1 record and is coming off an impressive 6-1 victory over Mount Union. The Pioneers broke the game open with five goals in the second half.
The Pioneers have displayed a balanced attack through their first four matches, with four players tied for the team lead with two goals apiece. Reece Heisel, Stone Work, Gus Dickman and Cole Varela have each found the back of the net twice, while Kellen Crouch added his first goal of the season in the victory over Mount Union.
Holding things together on the defensive end has been goalkeeper Ethan Drew. Drew has played every minute between the posts for the Pioneers this season, allowing just four goals while recording two shutouts.
The two sides have met twice in the history of matchup. The first one came in 2019 as the Pioneers beat Midway 8-0 and then in 2024 as Transylvania won that one 2-1. Midway looks for their first win of the season and against the Pioneers on Tuesday at 1:00.
