MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway Men's Soccer returns to action Monday morning when the Eagles welcome Saint Francis (Ind.) to Midway Turf Field for their 2026 home opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. This contest marks the first of six home games in the next seven games.
Midway enters Sunday with a 0-0-1 record after battling Georgetown (Ky.) to a 1-1 draw in its season opener on Aug. 26. The Eagles were scheduled to return to action Wednesday, but their contest was postponed due to excessive heat.
George Spencer provided the offense for Midway against Georgetown, scoring the opening goal of the contest. The Tigers later found the equalizer from the penalty spot as the two sides settled for a 1-1 draw.
Spencer finished the match with three shots, placing two on goal. Miles Ezell also put two shots on frame, while Elijah Orren and Grant Shearer each added one. Midway finished with 10 shots and put six on target.
Landon Sorrell played all 90 minutes between the posts for the Eagles, making three saves while allowing just the penalty-kick goal.
Saint Francis enters the matchup with a 2-2-1 record and brings an attack that has scored 10 goals through five contests. The Cougars have taken 62 shots, putting 34 on goal, while recording seven assists.
Rezik Dahbor has led the Saint Francis attack with four goals and an assist for nine points. Dahbor has scored his four goals on 10 shots, with six of those attempts coming on frame.
The Cougars have shown plenty of balance behind Dahbor, with seven other players finding the back of the net. Nils Kirtzeck and Rodrigo Santos have each recorded a goal and an assist, while Unax Mendia, Levaan Rose, Nathan Salter and Christian Walter have also scored this season.
Merlijn Van Der Veen has played every minute in goal for Saint Francis. Through five matches, he has allowed eight goals while making 18 saves and recording one shutout.
Sunday will mark just the second all-time meeting between the two programs. Their only previous matchup came in 2023, when Saint Francis earned a 4-0 victory.
