(Midway, Ky.) - After a slow start, Midway's basketball team turned in a dominating performance to best Ohio Christian University 93-61 on Saturday.
The Eagles turned in their best offensive performance of the season, going 28-57 from field-goal range for 49.1 percent. Midway also drained 7-15 from beyond the arc, the most they've put in all year. Not content to rest on their offensive laurels, Midway's defense held OCU to 40 percent from field goal range and 20 percent on three-point shots.
Five Eagles scored in double digits and, as has become customary this season, Me'Lisa Martinez (SR/Nashville, TN) led the way with 19 points. Not to be outdone, Miranda Rone (SR/Bowling Green, KY) poured in 17 of her own while Jarianna Gillespie knocked in 16. Rounding out the top scorers were Courtney Pfister (FR/Mount Washington, KY) with 14 and Karmari Boyd (FR/Lexington, KY) with 11. Shavon Majors (JR/Harrodsburg, KY) hit two three-pointers, recording the first of her college career.
In addition to her points, Rone's 12 rebounds were enough to earn a double - her first since the Eagles played Alice Lloyd College on February 15, 2014.
After the game, Head Coach Daniel Price lauded his team's defensive effort. "We've been preaching defense first since we took over this program and I think that today's game was proof that a strong defense goes a long way toward winning."
Midway will be back in action on November 26 when it travels to Williamsburg to take on the University of the Cumberlands. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
