Men's Golf sits in third after round one at Cherry Blossom

Georgetown, Ky. – The Midway men's golf team is currently in third place after the opening round of the Bluegrass Fall Invitational at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club in Georgetown, Kentucky.

The Eagles fired a 308 in the opening round, good enough for third place. They trail Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) – who sits in second place – by two shots. Georgetown (Ky.) is the leader after shooting 294 in the first round.

"I'm very pleased with how the men played today in their first ever tournament as Midway Eagles. We had some solid play and we are in good position to win tomorrow" said Coach Otis Smith.

Senior transfer, Cole Ballard (Bardstown, Ky.) leads the way for the Eagles after the first round. Ballard is currently in a tie for third place after shooting a 1-over 73. The leader, Taylor Suggs from Cincinnati Christian, shot a 2-under 70.

Logan Medley (Lebanon, Ky.) and Brandon Cambron (Louisville, Ky.) are both in a tie for 14 after the opening round. The duo each shot a 6-over 78. Granville Hayes (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) finished one shot behind his teammates after shooting a 79 in the first round.

Next up in the scoring for the Eagles came, sophomores, Justin Graham (Louisville, Ky.) and Luke Mattingly (Springfield, Ky.). Graham finished his first round with an 85 and Mattingly fired in an 86.

NeShaun Gordon (Louisville, Ky.), Andrew Chambers (Bardstown, Ky.) and Donald Luke Birkes (Winchester, Ky.) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles in the first round. Gordon shot an 87, while Chambers and Birkes finished with a 91 and 94, respectively.

The Eagles will look to erase the deficit when they take the course for the second round beginning at 8 a.m. ET at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club.
