RICHMOND, Ky. - Midway recovered nicely, but was unable to make a major climb in the standings after a slow start at the loaded Gibson Bay Intercollegiate men's golf invitational, a two-day event that concluded on Tuesday.
The Eagles finished eighth at the 10-team tournament, recording a three-round, 31-over par score of 905, one shot behind seventh-place Bethel (Tenn.).
Lindsey Wilson, the defending national champions and No. 1 team in the country, was victorious with an 872 (+8), six shots better than No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan.Â
Midway fell behind with a difficult first round, where it shot a 22-over par score of 310. The Eagles improved to 296 (+8) in the second round before closing with a 299 in Tuesday's final round.
Leading the Eagles in a three-way tie for eighth place was
Gage Gregory, who was four-over par for the tournament with a 220.
After shooting a four- and three-over respectively in the first two rounds, Gregory recorded an even-par 72 in the third, recording just two bogeys while getting birdies on the par-four fifth and 11th holes.
Three shots behind him in a tie for 15th was
Gabe Cole, who also had a 72 Tuesday, shooting birdies on a pair of par-fours (one and eight) and one par-five (seven).
Elsewhere,
Tristan Mitchell tied for 38th with a 234 (+18), while teammate
Hunter Graham was one shot behind in 41st playing as an individual.
Rounding it out for Midway was
Eli Stamper in a tie for 43rd (237, +21) and
Kobe Ingram in 46th (239, +23).
The Eagles will conclude their fall schedule in Venore, Tenn. on Saturday in Sunday when they take part in the Bojangles Invitational, hosted by Tennessee Wesleyan.
