VONORE, Tenn. - Rain ended the fall season early and prevented the Midway men's golf team from building on a great first-day showing at the Bojangles Invitational.
The Eagles ended Saturday's opening day in fourth place at 18 over-par with a 594. The final round started on Sunday morning, but rain prevented play from continuing.
Two of the teams ahead of the Eagles are in the NAIA top-15 in No. 14 Dalton State (first place) and No. 2 Reinhardt (second).
Midway came out ahead of nationally ranked teams Coastal Georgia (No. 16), Point (No. 21) and Northwestern Ohio (No. 25) and three others (Truett McConnell, Faulkner and Tennessee Wesleyan) receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll.
Gage Gregory finished the opening day in 13th with a four-over par 148, with
Tristan Mitchell two strokes behind in 21st.
In 28th with a 152 (+8) was
Eli Stamper. Stamper actually had the best individual round of any Midway player with a one-under 71 in round one, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five first hole.
Individual
Kobe Ingram was in 42nd with a 157 (+13) while
Hunter Graham was 51st with a 161 (+17).
The Eagles will return to action this spring with hopes of capturing a fifth River States Conference title in six years.
