London, Ky. – The Midway University men's golf team finished up their second tournament of the year on Tuesday after the second round of the Bill Sergent Invitational concluded at the Crooked Creek Golf Club.
The Eagles finished the tournament in seventh place with a two round total of 668. They improved in the second day shooting a 333 after finishing with a 335 in round one. The host, Cumberlands (Ky.) won the event with a 614 overall.
Senior, Cole Ballard (Bardstown, Ky.) had the best finish among the Eagles coming in 23rd place overall. Ballard improved in his second round for a 79 for a two round total of 161. Ballard also had a pair of birdies in his second round.
Ballard's teammate, Brandon Cambron (Louisville, Ky.) also showed improvement in the final round. Cambron poured in a 5-over 77 in the second round to finish with a 163 overall. The sophomore finished his round with one birdie and 11 pars.
Not to be outdone by his teammates, Justin Graham (Louisville, Ky.) showed a drastic improvement from the first round. Graham struggled in his opening round with a 94, but came out with a vengeance on Tuesday and fired a 79 and moved up nine spots on the leaderboard.
After having the low round on the team in the first round, Luke Mattingly (Springfield, Ky.) struggled in his second round. Mattingly scored an 81 in the opening round and finished with a 101 in the final round.
Granville Hayes (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) and Logan Medley (Lebanon, Ky.) also took to the course for their second round on Tuesday. Hayes finished with a total score of 172 after a 90 on Tuesday, while Medley fired an 88 for a two round total of 173.
NeShaun Gordon (Louisville, Ky.) and Andrew Chambers (Bardstown, Ky.) rounded out the scoring for Midway. Gordon shot an 89 in his second round and finished with a 175 overall. Chambers improved from a 101 in the opening round to a 94 in the second round.
The Midway men's golf team will now have three week before their next competition on October 2-3 in the UPIKE Fall Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Course.
