Tonge garners Player of the Week honors

Midway, Ky. – Junior forward, Patrice Tonge, was named the River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 2-8, the conference office announced on Monday, January 9.

The honor is the first of the career for Tonge, who is in her first season with Midway after transferring in over the summer. She also is the first Midway women's basketball player to take home the weekly honor since the 2010-11 season.

The junior forward from Lebanon, Ky. played a key role in a pair of Midway victories last week. She began the week with 22 points and 12 rebounds in a 76-53 upset victory over Point Park (Pa.) on Friday, January 6. The Pioneers are receiving votes in the latest coaches' poll.

Tonge followed that performance up with another solid outing against Carlow (Pa.) on Saturday, January 7. In a 75-68 win over the Celtics, she tallied 14 points and collected nine boards, while also dishing out five assists.

She leads the Eagles in rebounding grabbing 7.3 boards per game to go along with 7.9 points per game. Tonge ranks in the top-10 in the RSC in total rebounds per game (7.33), total rebounds (132) and defensive rebounds per game (5.28).

The Eagles are 13-5 overall and 4-2 in River States Conference play. They return to action on Tuesday, January 10, when they travel to Asbury (Ky.).
