Kenger, Ball, Patterson and Carter highlight postseason honors

Florence, Ky. – With the conference tournament set to begin in less than 24 hours, conference officials released on Tuesday the 2016-17 All-River States Conference Women's Basketball Teams and Awards as voted on by the 13 RSC women's basketball coaches.

The Eagles were well represented with honors as John Kenger was named Coach of the Year, Breanna Ball took home Newcomer of the Year as well as being named first team All-RSC, Timitryi Patterson garnered second team honors, while Rachel Carter was named to the Champions of Character Team.

Kenger, who is in his second season at Midway has led his team to one of the great turnarounds in the NAIA. In 2015-16 the Eagles finished with a 0-30 overall and 0-18 in conference play. In the span of a year, the women's basketball program has done a complete 180 by finishing the 2016-17 season with a 21-9 mark overall and a 12-6 record in conference play.

"I am extremely honored and humbled to have been named RSC women's basketball Coach of the Year," noted Kenger. "This is an award that belongs to my hard working assistants and players."

Taking home Newcomer of the Year was Breanna Ball. The senior guard is playing her final year of collegiate basketball at Midway after transferring in before the season began. Ball also took home All-RSC First Team honors.

The Dayton, Ohio native ranks in the top-10 in four different statistical categories in the River States. She ranks 10th in both assists (74) and free throw percentage (72.8), while ranking sixth in scoring per game (14.0) and fifth in overall scoring (420).

Timitryi Patterson was the final Eagle to take home All-Conference honors as she was named to the second team. Patterson, who is in her first season with Midway after graduating from South Warren High School last spring.

Patterson, like Ball, also ranks in the top-10 in four statistical categories in the RSC. The freshman forward from Bowling Green, Ky. ranks 10th in blocks (22), ninth in both rebounds per game (6.73) and total rebounds (202), while sitting eighth in offensive rebounds per game (2.40).

The final Eagle to garner postseason honors was Rachel Carter. The junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. was named to the 2016-17 RSC Women's Basketball Champions of Character Team.

The Eagles will begin postseason play on Wednesday, February 22, when they host West Virginia Tech in the River States Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.
