Eagles tied for second after round one of RSC Championship

Florence, Ky. – The Midway University men's golf team opened up postseason play on Monday morning when they played the first round of the River States Conference Men's Golf Championship at Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Kentucky.

The 11 teams played the first 18-holes early this morning and then had a quick turnaround as they were right back at the course to play the first nine holes of the second round.

After the opening 18-holes, the Eagles sit in a tie for second place after shooting a 307. Joining Midway in second place was Asbury (Ky.), who also carded a 307. The 11 team field is chasing Point Park (Pa.) after they shot a 306 in the opening round.

Leading the way for the Eagles was senior, Granville Hayes. The Lawrenceburg, Ky. native started on 10 and didn't get off to the start he was looking for a he bogeyed 11, 12 and 13, but would recover.

He would battle back as he birdied the par 3 14th en route to carding a 3-over, 39 on the back nine. Then he played the front nine at even par to finish with a 3-over, 74 as he sits in sixth place.

Sitting one shot behind Hayes, was junior, Logan Medley. The Lebanon, Ky. native shot a 3-over, 39 in the back nine and as he made the turn he began to improve. On the front nine he carded a 1-over, 35 to finish with an 18-hole score of 75. Hayes sits in seventh place.

Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles was the duo of Josh Koester (Louisville, Ky.) and Austin Mitchell (Louisville, Ky.).

Koester started on the back nine and finished at 4-over, 40, while shooting a 3-over, 38 in the front nine for a 7-over, 78. Mitchell tied the tournament high with four birdies as he shot a 9-over, 80 in the first round. The duo sits in T-13th and T-19th, respectively.

The final two players in action for Midway was senior, Shaun Gordon (Vine Grove, Ky.) and sophomore, Brandon Cambron (Louisville, Ky.). Gordon finished with an 84 in the first round, while Cambron carded an 88.
