Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- After sweeping Carlow (Pa.) on Friday to open their trip to the 'Steel City', the Midway University women's volleyball team wrapped up their trip to Pittsburgh, Pa. on Saturday when they took on Point Park (Pa.).
Jonea Rima's club completed their trip on a high note as they took care of the Pioneers and came away with the 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-17, 25-22).
With the win, Midway pushes their win streak to a season-high eight matches and improve to 17-2 overall and 11-2 in River States Conference play. Following their third consecutive perfect week, the Eagles trail IU Kokomo (Ind.) by a game for the top spot in the RSC West Division.
Following a season-low 28 kills in the sweep of Carlow, the Midway offense returned to peak form on Saturday. The Blue and Gold recorded 48 kills and committed just 16 errors in their 120 swings to finish with a .267 hitting clip.
Leading the effort on the offensive attack was Aubry Koester who turned in one her best performances of the season. The true freshman from Apple Valley, Calif. carded a season-high 19 kills in her 47 swings to record a .298 hitting clip. She also served a team-high four aces.
Koester helped kickstart a 7-2 rally in the opening set when the Eagles trailed 15-14. Then, coming out of a timeout with a slim 23-21 lead, she put down a pair of kills to clinch the 25-22 win in the first frame.
The second set saw the Eagles soar to a 10-point lead at 18-8 after holding an 11-6 edge. Point Park battled back and cut the deficit to 19-16 following an 8-1 run, but the Eagles followed with a rally of their own. Tori Richman (Fort Wayne, Ind.) put down a pair of kills to help fuel a 6-1 run to end the set at 25-17 as the visitors took a 2-0 lead overall.
The Pioneers sprinted to a 14-10 edge in set three, but Midway soon turned the deficit into a 20-15 lead following a 10-1 rally. Koester served four aces and opened the rally with a kill. Point Park once again rallied and tied the set at 21, but a kill by Richman and three kills by Koester sealed the sweep with the 25-22 win.
Tori Richman came up big for the Eagles in the win carding nine kills in 15 attempts to finish with a .400 hitting clip. Brooke Trompler (Campton, Ky.) also carded nine kills to go with her six digs.
Valerie Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) finished with 22 assists and six digs, while Evelyn Milburn (Versailles, Ky.) also ran the offense and posted 11 assists in the win.
Mariana Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with 24 digs, while the duo of Alysha Tullar (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Anju Sugiya (Tokyo, Japan) added seven and six digs, respectively.
Midway will now return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 26) when they host Asbury (Ky.) at 7 p.m. ET in Marshall Gymnasium.
