Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a road win at Campbellsville-Harrodsburg (Ky.) on Tuesday night, the Midway women's basketball team returned home to Marshall Gymnasium on Thursday and hosted Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
The Blue Raiders – who are currently ranked No. 16 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll – seized control in the first period as they scored 16 of the final 18 points en route to a 13-point lead at halftime as they held on for the 74-64 victory.
Following the loss, Chris Minner's squad drops to 2-2 on the young season, while Lindsey Wilson improves to 3-0 on the year.
The Eagles went toe-to-toe with the Blue Raiders early as they held a 14-10 lead following a 6-0 run that featured a layup from Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) sandwiched between a pair of layups from Dezeree White (Houston, Texas).
Midway's lead, however, was short lived after the Blue Raiders closed the quarter on a 16-2 run after hitting three consecutive three-pointers as they claimed a 26-16 lead following the opening quarter.
Lindsey Wilson led by as many as 20 late in the second quarter, but a pair of triples from Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.) helped spark an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to 47-34 at intermission.
The two teams combined to go just 6-of-22 from the floor in the third quarter, but it was the visitors who would take a 60-43 lead into the fourth and final stanza.
Midway opened the final frame on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to eight, but that would be as close as the home team got. The Blue and Gold had the deficit to nine in the final couple of minutes, but the Blue Raiders held on for the 74-64 victory.
Three players reached double figures for the Eagles led by a pair of 21-point performances from Dezeree White and Allyson Callahan. White added 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, while Callahan pulled down eight boards and hit 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Jalyn Jackson, meanwhile, added 11 points and five assists in the loss.
Midway finished the contest shooting 33.3 percent (20-of-60) from the floor, while going 8-of-28 from three for 28.6 percent. The Blue Raiders, meanwhile, shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) overall and 9-of-18 from downtown for 50 percent.
The Eagles are scheduled to return to action on Saturday (Nov. 13) when they travel to Wilberforce (Ohio) for a 1 p.m. ET tipoff in the 'Buckeye State'.
