Box Score

KOKOMO, Ind. -- After getting a gritty win at Alice Lloyd (Ky.) earlier in the week, the Midway women's basketball team wrapped up their week on Saturday (Dec. 4) with a road trip to IU Kokomo (Ind.) in a battle among River States Conference West Division foes.

The Eagles took a 38-32 lead into the locker room, but they would outscore the home team by 20 points in the third quarter and would lead by as many as 27 in the fourth quarter before cruising to the 77-58 victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad pushes their win streak to three as they improve to 8-4 overall and remain perfect in league play moving to 4-0. IU Kokomo, meanwhile, drops to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in RSC play.

Midway used a stifling defense to hold the Cougars to 38.7 percent shooting for the contest, while they forced the home team into 31 turnovers which led to a 34-13 edge in points off turnovers.

The visitors, on the other hand, finished the contest shooting 50 percent (31-of-62) from the floor, while they hit 8-of-22 from behind the arc for 36.4 percent.

The game was tied on two different occasions in the opening quarter, but the Eagles would take an 18-14 lead in the second stanza. Both teams put together strong second quarters as Midway shot 60 percent and IU Kokomo finished with a 50 percent shooting clip.

The largest lead for the Blue and Gold in the first half came with 3:45 left when Atlantis White (Houston, Texas) swished home a triple to cap an 8-2 run as they took a 38-32 lead at halftime.

Midway turned up the pressure in the third where they shot 73.3 percent, turned over the Cougars 11 times and outscored the home team by 20 points. The Cougars scored all eight points in the opening 2:35 as they were held without a point over the final 7:25.

The scoring drought allowed Midway to close the quarter on a 23-0 run to take a 26-point lead into the final stanza. Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.) highlighted the run with eight points including back-to-back treys as six different players contributed to the run.

A layup by Jill Goldey (Pineville, Ky.) in the opening moments of the fourth gave Midway their largest lead of the contest at 27 as they would cruise to the 77-58 victory.

Midway had four players reach double figures led by three players who scored 14 points apiece. Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) finished with 14 points and nine steals, while Allyson Callahan and Jill Goldey also added 14 points apiece. Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.), meanwhile, added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds in the win.

Midway now is scheduled to return to action on Friday (Dec. 10) when they host Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) – who is currently ranked No. 23 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll – at 3 p.m. ET in Marshall Gymnasium.
