Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- After seeing their previous two games this week cancelled due to inclement weather, the Midway women's basketball team closed their regular season on Saturday (Feb. 20) with a road contest at IU Southeast (Ind.).
The Eagles entered the locker room trailing 41-39, but after outscoring the home team 50-36 in the second half they would cruise to the 89-77 victory.
With the win, Chris Minner's squad improves to 13-7 on the season as they finished the regular season riding a four-game winning streak. Since suffering a loss to open the second half of the season, the Eagles have won 11 of their last 13 games to get to 13-7 overall.
The Eagles finished the contest shooting 50.8 percent from the floor (33-of-65), while they hit 13-of-38 from behind the arc for 34.2 percent. The Blue and Gold also recorded 24 assists on their 33 made field goals.
IU Southeast – who falls to 5-5 on the season – finished the game shooting at a 47 percent clip (31-of-66) as they hit just 6-of-18 from the three-point line for 33.3 percent.
Allyson Callahan – the reigning River States Conference Player of the Week – helped get the Eagles off to a strong start scoring 11 points in the opening quarter to boost her squad to a 24-18 lead.
Midway struggled in the second stanza shooting just 6-of-15 from the floor, while IU Southeast took advantage of Midway's struggles by closing the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 41-39 lead into the locker room.
About midway through the third, the Blue and Gold got a string of three consecutive triples from Callahan, Emma Gutman (Williamstown, Ky.) and Jill Enix (Pineville, Ky.) sparking a 19-4 run that turned a five point deficit into a 10 point advantage.
The run ended with Midway scoring 10 straight which featured back-to-back treys from Kindall Talley (Frankfort, Ky.) and Jalyn Jackson (Alexandria, Ky.) as the Eagles took a 65-58 advantage heading into the fourth.
The visitors would lead by as many as 14 in the final quarter before IU Southeast cut the deficit to eight with 2:54 remaining. That would be as close as the Grenadiers would get as Callahan answered with an 'and-one' before the Eagles would cruise to the 89-77 victory.
Allyson Callahan led the way for the Blue and Gold turning in yet another career-high with 33 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds. Leah Shelley (LaCenter, Ky.) and Jalyn Jackson each finished with 13 points in the win, while Sierra Graham (Shepherdsville, Ky.) and Kindall Talley dished out seven and six assists, respectively.
