Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following an easy win over Carlow (Pa.) on Thursday (Jan. 27), the Midway women's basketball picked up their second consecutive win on Sunday (Jan. 30) when they defeated Point Park (Pa.) inside Marshall Gymnasium.
The Eagles took a 23-11 lead following the opening quarter, but then led by as many as 26 in the second as they carried a 54-32 lead into the locker room. Point Park outscored the Blue and Gold in the third and fourth, but Midway held on for the 91-76 victory.
With the win, Chris Minner's squad improves to 17-6 overall and 9-2 in River States Conference play as they're currently leading the RSC West Division by two games. Point Park, meanwhile, drops to 13-7 overall and 6-5 in league play following the loss.
It was a tale of two halves for the Blue and Gold as they came out firing in the opening 20 minutes shooting 51.2 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from downtown where they hit 7-of-13.
Midway's defense also held the Pioneers to 28.9 percent, while they hit just 5-of-18 from the three-point line for 27.8 percent. The Eagles also forced Point Park into 16 turnovers which led to a 22-0 edge in points off turnovers.
Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) opened the game with a triple before Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) added a three-point play as Midway jumped to a 6-0 advantage and never looked back.
Midway pushed their lead to double digits at the end of the quarter before blowing the game open in the second stanza. The home squad opened the second quarter on a 21-7 run to extend their lead to it's largest of the game at 44-18 with just over four minutes left until halftime.
Part of that run was an 11-2 spurt that featured another trey from White followed by back-to-back long balls from Kindall Talley (Frankfort, Ky.) as Midway would take a 54-32 lead into the locker room.
Point Park shot 55.6 percent in the third quarter before cutting the lead to single digits in the fourth with 3:20 remaining. Talley answered the run with a pair of three-pointers as part of an 8-0 run as Midway held on for the 91-76 victory.
The Eagles had five players reach double figures led by Dezeree White who finished with 20 points, nine assists and eight rebounds as she hit 8-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-6 from three.
Allyson Callahan added 16 points hitting 6-of-12 from the floor, while Jalyn Jackson added 14 points and eight rebounds. Kindall Talley also scored 14 points hitting 4-of-8 from three, and Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) added 12 points in 27 minutes off the bench.
Midway forced the Pioneers into 23 turnovers which led to a 39-11 edge in points off turnovers, while they shot 46.7 percent for the game. Point Park, meanwhile, shot 39.2 percent overall.
The Eagles are now scheduled to have the next few days off before returning to action on Saturday (Jan. 5) when they host Oakland City (Ind.) at 3 p.m. ET.
