Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Midway women's basketball team got their season underway on Saturday (Nov. 5) when they traveled to Columbia, Ky. to battle Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in the Biggers Sports Center.
The Eagles led by as many as 11 in the opening half and would take a six-point lead into the final quarter, but the Blue Raiders rallied in the fourth outscoring the visitors 23-10 as they came from behind to secure the 81-74 victory.
With the loss, Chris Minner's squad falls to 0-1, while Lindsey Wilson continues their undefeated start to the season improving to 3-0.
Following a back-and-forth opening quarter, the Eagles got it going in the second where they shot 52.6 percent. They also held the Blue Raiders to 35.3 percent in the second quarter.
The second quarter saw the Eagles get 11 points from Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) and eight from Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) as the visitors outscored the home team 26-18 in the quarter before taking a 43-35 lead at halftime.
The duo of McCullogh and Daugherty came up big in the opening half as they combined to score 27 of Midway's 43 points.
Lindsey Wilson cut the deficit to 64-58 entering the final quarter, but Midway still held a 69-60 lead with 7:56 left. The Eagles, however, went scoreless for over two minutes as the Blue Raiders went on a 10-0 run to take a 70-69 lead.
The Eagles regained a 71-70 lead on a layup by Dezeree White (Houston, Texas), but the Blue Raiders closed the game on an 11-3 run as they went on for the 81-74 victory.
For the fourth frame, Midway shot just 26.7 percent from the field, while the Blue Raiders shot a scorching 66.7 percent.
McCullogh led the way for the Eagles with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while White finished with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Daugherty and Semaj Adams (New Orleans, La.) chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Eagles are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 8) when they travel to Taylor (Ind.). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET in Upland, Indiana.
