Box Score

HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Following a 12-day break to celebrate the Christmas Holiday, the Midway women's basketball team was back in action on Friday (Dec. 30) when they opened a four-game road swing with a non-conference matchup against Huntington (Ind.).

The Eagles got off to a bit of a slow start as they trailed by as many as 10 in the early going before facing a 19-13 deficit after 10 minutes of play. Midway then outscored the Foresters 64-38 over the final three periods en route to the 77-57 victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad extends their winning streak to seven and improve to 9-5 on the year. Huntington, meanwhile, slips to 6-9 on the year following the loss.

Huntington jumped out to an early 8-0 lead as they held Midway scoreless for the opening two minutes of the contest. They eventually stretched their lead to as many as 10 as Midway hit just one field goal in the opening 6:25 of the contest.

The opening period saw the Eagles shoot just 25 percent and turn it over five times. Luckily for the visitors, they hit 7-of-8 from the charity stripe in the first frame as they faced a 19-13 deficit entering the second stanza.

It didn't take long for Midway to grab their first lead of the contest early in the second. Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) scored the first five points of the quarter and kickstarted a 12-0 run to take a 25-19 lead less than four minutes into the quarter.

Midway's defense – which forced 11 Huntington turnovers in the second quarter – held the home team scoreless until the 6:13 mark as they would take a 34-28 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter was a bit of a back-and-forth battle as the Foresters stayed within striking distance trailing 51-42 entering the final quarter.

Huntington would cut the deficit to as little as six early in the final stanza, but Midway would eventually put the game away. Holding a nine-point lead with 4:29 left, the Eagles closed the game on a 16-5 run en route to the easy 77-57 victory.

Dezeree White – who scored 12 points in the fourth quarter – led the way for the Eagles with 28 points and six rebounds. The senior hit 11-of-20 from the floor in the win. Semaj Adams (New Orleans, La.) turned in a solid performance with 16 points, seven rebounds, and six steals, while Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) added 10 points in 24 minutes off the bench.

Midway forced 25 Huntington turnovers which led to a 29-8 edge in points off turnovers.

The Blue and Gold will wrap up their trip to Indiana on Saturday (Dec. 31) when they battle Grace (Ind.) at 1 p.m. ET. Both the Eagles and the Lancers are in the 'receiving votes' portion of the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll.
