Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a crucial league victory over Alice Lloyd (Ky.) earlier in the week, the Midway women's basketball team wrapped up their six-game homestand on Saturday (Feb. 12) when they hosted IU Kokomo (Ind.) for Senior Day inside Marshall Gymnasium.

IU Kokomo would take a 35-28 lead into the locker room, but Midway battled back and took a two-point lead into the fourth after outscoring the visitors 20-11. With the game tied at 53, the Eagles went on a 6-0 run as they held on for the 61-57 victory.

With the win, Chris Minner's squad extends their win streak to five as they improve to 20-6 overall and 12-2 in River States Conference play. The Eagles continue to lead the West Division as they hold a two and a half game lead over Oakland City (Ind.).

Prior to tipoff, the Eagles honored six seniors for their Senior Day including: Kindall Talley (Frankfort, Ky.), Sierra Graham (Shepherdsville, Ky.), Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.), Ta'Tayana Outlaw (Clarksville, Tenn.), Jill Goldey (Pineville, Ky.) and Leah Shelley (LaCenter, Ky.).

Midway got off to a strong start thanks to the play of Kindall Talley. The senior guard scored the first five points for the Blue and Gold and would later connect on her second triple as she scored eight points in the opening frame.

The Eagles would lead by as many as six points in an opening stanza that saw the two squads combine for 15 turnovers. Neither team shot the ball very well as they combined to go just 9-of-29 for 31 percent.

IU Kokomo – who fell to 9-14 overall and 6-10 in RSC play with the loss – found their footing in the second period shooting 52.6 percent as they forced the Eagles into eight turnovers and just 41.2 percent shooting from the floor.

Trailing 25-22, the Cougars held the Eagles to just one field goal over the final 2:46 as they would take a 35-28 lead into the locker room after closing the frame on a 10-2 run.

Midway finally found their shooting stroke in the third quarter where they went 4-of-8 from behind the arc. Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) and Callahan connected hit back-to-back before Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) and Talley added two more as part of a 14-2 run that saw Midway take a 46-41 lead.

With the game tied at 53, Midway called timeout and would turn up the pressure on the defensive end holding the Cougars to 1-of-7 shooting and three turnovers over the final 6:22 of regulation.

Miller broke the tie with a pair of free throws, while Jackson scored four points as part of a 6-0 run. IU Kokomo cut the deficit in half with under 30 seconds remaining, but a driving floater from Talley put the game on ice as Midway held on for the 61-57 victory.

Three players reached double figures for the Eagles led by a 14 point, seven rebound performance from Mi'lan Miller. Jalyn Jackson added 13 points and six assists, while Kindall Talley once again played all 40 minutes finishing with 13 points, four steals and four rebounds.

Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) turned in a solid performance with seven points and eight rebounds, while Allyson Callahan chipped in six rebounds and four assists in a winning effort.

Midway finished the contest shooting just 37.5 percent from the floor, but they did manage to record 17 assists on their 24 made field goals. IU Kokomo, meanwhile, shot 35.9 percent and committed 30 turnovers in the loss.

Following the six-game homestand, Midway will now hit the road for another River States Conference West Division showdown with St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) on Tuesday (Feb. 15) at 5:30 p.m. ET. The Eagles won the first meeting (83-48) back on December 18.
