Box Score CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- Following a tough loss to No. 12 Rio Grande (Ohio) earlier in the week, the Midway women's basketball team returned to their winning ways on Saturday (Jan. 14) when they picked up a road win over Ohio Christian in Circleville, Ohio.
The Eagles had four players reach double figures and they got 31 points from their bench en route to the 73-52 victory.
With the win, Chris Minner's squad improves to 12-7 overall and 7-2 in River States Conference play, while the Trailblazers slip to 5-13 overall and 3-6 in RSC play.
The game opened with a back-and-forth battle, but the Eagles seemed to take control following a 9-1 run. Amoni White (St. Louis, Mo.) scored seven of the nine points and Semaj Adams (New Orleans, La.) hit a bucket giving Midway a 23-16 lead after one quarter of play.
The second quarter saw an offensive struggle as neither team shot higher than 26 percent. The Eagles did, however, manage to pad their lead after closing the quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 35-24 lead into the locker room.
A jumper by Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) followed by back-to-back buckets by Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) saw Midway stretch their lead to as many as 21 in the third quarter before taking a 54-37 lead into the final stanza.
The Trailblazers started to make a run in the fourth and cut the deficit to 12, 57-45, with 6:47 left, but Midway would soon put the game away for good. The Eagles then closed the game on a 16-7 run as they would cruise to the 73-52 victory.
The Eagles had four players reach double figures in the win led by Amoni White who hit 5-of-7 from the floor and finished with 13 points off the bench. Aleigha Mucker (Hardinsburg, Ky.) hit 3-of-3 from three scoring 11 points, while Semaj Adams scored 10 points. Dezeree White (Houston, Texas), meanwhile, chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds, and five steals in the win.
Midway dominated the rebounding battle holding a 48-26 edge including a 25-7 advantage in offensive rebounds which led to an 18-6 edge in second chance points. Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) grabbed 13 rebounds and Mucker pulled down seven.
The Blue and Gold will now have the next week off before returned to the hardwood on Saturday (Jan. 21) when they take on IU Southeast (Ind.). They're scheduled to return to Marshall Gymnasium on Jan. 24 when they host West Virginia Tech at 5:30 p.m. ET.
