Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Following a week off from competition, the Midway women's basketball team returned to the hardwood on Saturday (Jan. 21) when they battled IU Southeast (Ind.) in a River States Conference matchup in New Albany, Indiana.
The Eagles – who had four players reach double figures – would lead by 14 after 10 minutes of the play before leading by as many as 27 en route to the 73-47 victory.
With the win, Midway – who is in the 'receiving votes' portion of the NAIA Top 25 Poll – improves to 13-7 overall and 8-2 in RSC play, while the Grenadiers fall to 12-7 overall and 5-5 in league play following the loss.
Semaj Adams (New Orleans, La.) scored the first seven points for the Eagles as she would go on to score 11 points in the opening quarter. Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) – who scored eight points in the opening frame – later hit back-to-back threes as Midway took a 26-12 lead after 10 minutes of play.
The Eagles shot 52.4 percent from the floor in the opening quarter, while they forced eight turnovers on the defensive end and held the Grenadiers to 26.7 percent shooting.
IU Southeast got within single digits, 26-19, early in the second after opening with a quick 7-0 run. The final eight plus minutes of the first half saw the Grenadiers score just two points as they were held without a point for over seven minutes.
Midway closed the half on a 14-2 run as they took a 40-21 lead into the locker room. Amoni White (St. Louis, Mo.) came alive in the second quarter scoring seven of Midway's 14 points.
Keia McCullogh (Nashville, Tenn.) scored six points in the final 4:41 of the third quarter as she helped kickstart an 8-3 run that saw her team take a 57-33 lead into the fourth.
Amoni White capped a 6-0 run early in the fourth as Midway would take their largest lead of the contest at 62-35 less than three minutes in. She later converted another 'and-one' to put the finishing touches on the 73-47 victory.
Amoni White – who hit 5-of-8 from the floor – was one of four players to reach double figures scoring 13 points off the bench. Keia McCullogh, meanwhile, hit a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor and finished with 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Dezerre White and Semaj Adams each scored 14 points to lead the way for the Eagles. White added five rebounds, three steals, and three assists to her stat line, while Adams recorded nine rebounds and four assists to go with her 14 points.
Midway forced IU Southeast into 19 turnovers which led to a 32-7 edge in points off turnovers.
The Eagles are back at it on Tuesday (Jan. 24) when they host West Virginia Tech at 5:30 p.m. ET inside Marshall Gymnasium.
