Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- After seeing their winning streak come to an end in their last outing against Grace (Ind.), the Midway women's basketball team returned to the hardwood on Thursday looking to start a new winning streak when they battled Point Park (Pa.).
The Eagles got back in the winning column as they scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back. Midway never trailed in the game as they would cruise to the easy 72-46 victory.
Midway – who has won eight of their last nine – improves to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in River States Conference play, while the Pioneers slip to 4-10 overall and 1-5 in RSC play following the loss.
Four different Eagles etched their name into the scoring column in the opening three minutes as they soared to an early 8-0 lead. Midway was held without a field goal for the next three minutes as the Pioneers cut the deficit to 15-11 entering the second quarter.
A triple by Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) gave Midway a 20-13 lead, but the Pioneers cut the deficit to one following a quick 6-0 run. A layup by Semaj Adams (New Orleans, La.) and a trey by Jalyn Jackson (Cold Spring, Ky.) started a 9-0 run as they took a 29-21 lead at halftime.
The Eagles added to their lead in the third quarter and started to pull away. A Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) layup followed by back-to-back layups by Adams stretched the lead to 35-21 less than two minutes into the second half.
The Pioneers got within 12 with just over five minutes left in the third, but the Eagles would take a 50-35 lead into the final quarter.
The final stanza saw the Eagles shoot 63.6 percent from the floor, while they held Point Park to just 38.5 percent for the quarter. They outscored the home team 22-11 in the 10-minute frame as Midway cruised to the 26-point win.
Three players reached double figures for the Eagles led by Dezeree White and Semaj Adams who each scored 18 points in the win. White added six steals, four assists, and four rebounds to her stat line, while Adams chipped in nine rebounds and six steals. Jalyn Jackson, meanwhile, recorded 10 points in a winning effort.
Midway – who shot 45 percent for the game – forced the Pioneers into 32 turnovers which led to a 32-6 edge in points off turnovers.
Chris Minner's squad returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 7) when they wrap up their trip to the 'Steel City' with a River States Conference matchup against Carlow (Pa.). Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
