Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - Yasmeen Shalash saved perhaps the best performance of her collegiate career for her final game at Midway Soccer Field.
The senior goalie finished with 13 saves and kept Indiana East off the scoreboard, as the Eagles concluded conference play with a 0-0 draw on senior day Saturday.
Prior to the game, Shalash was honored alongside teammates Tasia Williams, Hadley Duvall, Sadie Godbey, Mariana Casey, Victoria Golladay and Louisa Garcia.
She then went out and proved to be an impenetrable force in net, turning away several open Red Wolf shots, with multiple looks coming at near point-blank range.
Shalash's 13 saves were the most she's had in a game this season, as Saturday marked the first time she's played a full 90 minutes in goal in 2023.
TOURNAMENT BOUND
For the first time in nine years, the Eagles' year won't wrap with the conclusion of the regular season, as their 4-5-1 conference record has earned them the seventh seed in the River States Tournament.
Midway will open tourney play in Pittsburgh against second-seeded Point Park. A time and date for the game has yet to be announced.
The Eagles haven't taken part in the postseason since a 2-1 loss to Carlow in the opening round of the 2014 KIAC Tournament.
"It's an exciting time," coach Sherril Smith said. "You come into a season and you put a lot of time into it and it's great when it pays off."
And after a disappointing effort in a 7-1 loss to Shawnee State in the previous game, Smith hopes his team can ride the momentum of Saturday's strong performance into an unfamiliar setting.
"I just hope we can play as well as we're capable of," he said. "If we do that, the rest will take care of itself. I hope we have a lot more in store for ourselves."
The Eagles are 7-5-1 overall. Saturday was their first draw since Oct. 13 of last year, which, incidentally, was also a 0-0 final against Indiana East.
