Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Midway women's basketball team hit the road on Friday (Nov. 10) for the first time this season when they traveled south to Montgomery, Ala. to take on Faulkner in the Jimmy Faulkner Classic.
Faulkner took a 27-19 lead after the first quarter and would take a 50-41 lead into the locker room before cruising to a comfortable 85-67 victory.
Midway, who slips to 0-2 following the loss, shot just 38.9 percent from the floor in the first frame, while Faulkner, who moved to 3-2 with the win, shot 66.7 percent in the opening quarter.
Maintaining a slim two-point lead in the opening quarter, the home team used an 11-0 run to build a 21-8 lead with just under two minutes left in the first. Jacie Chesser converted a three-point play late in the first to help spark a run that carried over into the second.
Trinity Johnson added a field goal before Kassidy Daugherty added a 3-pointer to cap an 8-0 run that cut the Faulkner lead to 27-24 less than a minute into the second stanza.
Faulkner's Neely Johns then hit back-to-back triples, fueling a 10-0 run that would see the home team take a 50-41 lead at intermission.
The Eagles got within six at one point in the third, but that would be as close as they'd get. Faulkner would outscore the Eagles 18-11 in the fourth to claim the 85-67 victory.
Three players reached double figures for the Eagles, led by Jaiden Douthit, who scored 18 points in the loss. Kassidy Daugherty added 14 points, hitting 4-of-6 from behind the arc, while Jacie Chesser chipped in 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor.
Faulkner forced the Eagles into 27 turnovers which led to a 27-6 edge in points off turnovers.
Midway wraps up their trip to Alabama on Saturday when they take on Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at 1 p.m. ET.
