MIDWAY, Ky. – After the Call of Duty squadron opened its season with a 2-2 record in the CCL Qualifier #1-Midwest Bracket, the Midway esports team commenced its regular season recently. After posting a 3-0 victory in Call of Duty, the Eagles dropped a trio of matches in the first full week of competition of the semester.

For the spring term, the Blue and Gold have compiled an overall record of 3-5.

In its first match, the Eagles took on Malone (Ohio) in Call of Duty and pulled out a 3-0 sweep. Midway got off to a hot start in Hardpoint with a 250-67 win. Jonathan Cain (Madisonville, Ky.) picked up 29 kills while Ethan Schott (Jeffersonville, Ind.) added 21 kills and Daniel Coffey (Somerset, Ky.) chipped in with 14. Hunter Yeager (Sulphur, Ky.) added three minutes of objective time in the win.  

The Eagles then claimed the second point of the match with an easy 6-1 win in Search and Destroy. Cain led the Blue and Gold once again with eight kills while Coffey put up seven. The Eagles then closed out the match after a 3-0 victory in Control with Cain recording 20 kills. Schott picked up 19 kills and Yeager finished in double figures with 11.

In its second match of the spring semester, the Call of Duty squad suffered a 3-0 loss to St. Clair College (Ontario). In other matches, League of Legends suffered a 2-0 loss to Mars Hill (N.C.) while the Overwatch team battled hard but dropped a 2-1 decision to Nazareth College (N.Y.).

Midway esports returns to action on Friday, February 10 when the Rocket League team makes its spring debut facing off with Hocking College (Ohio). In weekend action, Call of Duty takes part in a second Call of Duty CCL Qualifier tournament and will open up against Michigan State on Saturday, February 11.
