MIDWAY, Ky. – It was a very busy week over at the Midway esports facility as the Eagles played nine matches, compiling a 4-5 record. The Eagles closed out the week in strong fashion as they picked up a 2-0 victory over Alice Lloyd (Ky.) in League of Legends while the Overwatch team earned a 3-2 victory over Roanoke (Va.).
For the spring term, the Blue and Gold have compiled an overall record of 7-10.
The week opened with the Rocket League squad suffering a 3-0 loss to Hocking (Ohio) in its spring debut on Friday. Meanwhile, the Call of Duty team put up a 1-2 record in the CCL Qualifier #2 where it picked up a forfeit victory over Michigan State before closing the weekend competition with losses to the University of Windsor (Ontario) and Concordia (Wisc.).
On Tuesday, the Call of Duty team returned to the screens as they opened up their league play in the CCL Open Division. In its first match on Tuesday, the Eagles lost to Southern Illinois 3-0 before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory over Lewis (Ill.). On Wednesday, Call of Duty suffered a 3-0 loss to Brock University (Ontario).
The League of Legends team opened its spring season on Wednesday and earned a 2-0 sweep over Alice Lloyd. The Eagles were led in game one by Lonnie Loveless III (Somerset, Ky.) who picked up 20 kills, zero deaths and a KDA of 26. He was assisted by Riley Ogden (Lawrenburg, Ky.) who notched 18 kills and 11 assists with a KDA of 9.7. In game two, Loveless again led the offensive effort with 17 kills and a 32 KDA while Kyle Standifur (Pikeville, Ky.) dished out 23 assists and a 27 KDA.
The Overwatch squad evened their record at 1-1 with a 3-2 victory over Roanoke. In the game, Savanna Neace (Cynthiana, Ky.) led the Blue and Gold with 105 eliminations and dealt out 40,903 worth of damage. Hunter Yeager dished out 60,420 of damage while earning 103 eliminations. On the healing side, Loveless handed out 55,834 and Madison Ward (Cynthiana, Ky.) chipped in with 40,782.
Midway esports returns to action on Friday, February 17 when the Rocket League team takes on Ithaca (N.Y). On Tuesday, February 22 the Call of Duty team faces Wisconsin La Crosse and Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) in CCL Open Division action.
Call of Duty returns on Wednesday for a battle with the University of Georgia while the League of Legends team will also compete. The week concludes on Thursday with an Overwatch battle against ONEY Vermillion. All Midway esports contests will be streamed at https://www.twitch.tv/midwayuniversity.
