MIDWAY, Ky. – With the postseason rapidly approaching, the Midway esports team continued picking up wins this past week. The Eagles accumulated a record of 5-2 with a pair of wins in Overwatch and single victories in Rocket League, League of Legends, and Call of Duty.
With the victories, the Eagles have compiled an overall record of 44-37 for the academic year.
On Monday evening, Overwatch began a two-game week with a 3-1 victory over previously undefeated Ohio Wesleyan and extended their current winning streak to five games. Savanna Neace (Cynthiana, Ky.) recorded a team-high 129 kills, while Hunter Yeager (Sulphur, Ky.) led the Blue and Gold with 61,600 damage caused to go with 128 kills.
Trevor Alexander (Somerset, Ky.) also registered triple-digit kills with 115. On the healing side, Lonnie Loveless III (Somerset, Ky.) led his squad with 57,696, while Madison Ward (Cynthiana, Ky.) chipped in with 48,612.
The Overwatch team returned to the screens on Thursday evening and picked up a 3-1 win over York College (Pa.). Neace led the Blue and Gold with 100 kills and 32,481 damage caused, while Loveless performed 38,332 of healing.
In other action, the Eagles opened the week with a 3-1 victory against Mount Union (Ohio) in a St. Patrick's Day Rocket League showdown.
The Blue and Gold were led by Loveless, who turned in a 10-save performance to go along with three goals and an assist. The offense was led by Alexander's four goals, while Kyle Standifur (Pikeville, Ky.) scored a pair of goals and made seven saves.
The League of Legends team opened their week with a 2-0 loss to Louisville on Sunday evening before bouncing back with a 2-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday.
The Call of Duty squad opened their week with a 3-0 victory over Bellevue (Neb.). Jonathan Cain (Madisonville, Ky.) led his team with 63 kills, while Ethan Schott (Jeffersonville, Ind.) chipped in with 39 kills. In their second match of the week, the Eagles dropped a 3-0 decision to Missouri State.
Midway esports returns to the screens with a Rocket League doubleheader on Friday night. The Eagles faceoff against Bethel (Tenn.) at 7 p.m. ET before playing Southwest Michigan College at 8:30.
In other action, League of Legends will play against Samford (Ala.) on Wednesday, March 29, at 8 p.m. ET. The Overwatch team will look to keep their six-game winning streak alive when they battle with Defiance (Ohio) at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 30.
