EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In their first River States Conference Championship match since the program restarted in 2016-17, the Midway women's tennis team looked to continue its season when it took on No. 1 seed Oakland City (Ind.). Despite claiming a victory at No. 1 doubles, the Blue and Gold suffered a 4-0 loss to the Mighty Oaks.
With the loss, the Eagles see their season end with a record of 9-11. The Mighty Oaks improve to 14-9 on the season and advance to the NAIA National Championships.
At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Agustina Olivero (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Mara Guillen (Madrid, Spain) dominated while earning a 6-1 victory. Oakland City, however, picked up 6-3 wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions to earn the doubles point.
In singles play, the Mighty Oaks earned wins at the No. 3, 5 and 6 positions to clinch the match. Olivero led her match 6-4, 5-0 at No. 1 singles when play was suspended while Guillen led 6-3, 3-4 in the No. 2 slot when Oakland City clinched.
