MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway freshman
Alicia Sanglas Sanglas was named Women's Tennis Newcomer of the Year by the River States Conference, it was announced Thursday evening.
Sanglas put together a 7-5 record at No. 1 singles while going 9-3 at No. 1 doubles with fellow freshman
and RSC First-Team All-Conference selection
Emma Pheiffer.
She is the first Eagle to win best newcomer honors since 2023, when
Agustina Olivero was named both
Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year.
Midway finished the regular season with a 5-1 record in conference matches, securing itself the No. 2 seed at the River States Conference Tournament in Evansville, Ind. this weekend.
The Eagles earned a bye into the semifinals, where they will face Indiana Southeast at 10 a.m. Saturday. The third-seeded Grenadiers advanced with a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Cougars on Thursday.
