MIDWAY, Ky. - One day
after being named First Team All-Conference by the River States Conference, Midway's
Ricardo Starosta earned another major honor from the league.
On Thursday, Starosta was honored as the RSC's Newcomer of the Year. The junior transfer from West Virginia Wesleyan College was Midway's No. 1 player all season, putting together a 6-2 record in singles and a 7-1 record in doubles with partner
Mudiwa Munyimani.
The Porto Alegre, Brazil native became the second Eagle to win the River States Newcomer of the Year award,
joining 2022 winner German Collado.
Starosta played a big role in Midway finishing 4-1 in conference play and earning the No. 2 seed at the RSC Conference Tournament, which will be played at the Wesselman Tennis Center in Evansville, Ind. this weekend.
The Eagles will open tournament play in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. Friday. They will face Brescia, after the Bearcats defeated Shawnee State 4-0 in the opening round of play Thursday.
