MIDWAY, Ky. - First-team selectees
Ricardo Starosta and
Ferran Clapes Ballart highlighted a great showing by Midway, which had six players earn All-River States Conference honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Competing exclusively as a No. 1 player, Starosta had a great first season with the Eagles, going 6-2 in singles play and 7-1 in doubles. His performance earned him
RSC Player of the Week honors on
two separate occasions.
Clapes Ballart,
a Second-Team All-RSC player last season, made the jump to First Team after winning a team-best 14 matches across singles and doubles, going 7-3 in both.
Starosta's doubles partner and fellow newcomer
Mudiwa Munyimani was a Second-Team selection. Munyimani was 5-5 while playing at both No. 2 and 3 singles and won a total of eight doubles matches.
On the Third Team was bothÂ
Aleksey Granitsa and
Manuel Mirabal. Granitsa won a combined six matches this season, with Mirabal winning five.
Shimpei Yazuka was chosen as the team's Champion of Character.
Midway will travel to the Wesselman Tennis Center in Evansville, Ind. for the River States Conference Tournament this weekend, where it will play as the No. 2 seed.
The Eagles will open in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. Saturday against the winner of an opening-round Friday match between No. 3 Brescia or No. 6 Shawnee State.
