Saint Mary starts fast, shuts out Eagles in women's soccer tilt

Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway fell into an early hole and the offense couldn't dig its way out, losing 3-0 at home to Saint Mary of the Woods (Ind.) in a River States Conference clash Saturday.

Down 2-0 at the half thanks to goals by Sierra Mullins and Kennedy Trigg, the Eagles had two great chances to pull closer in the second half, but were done in by two different posts in a five-minute stretch. Haylee Applegate had an open look clang off the left post in the 57th minute, then Evie Clare saw a shot deflect off the cross bar in the 62nd.

Thirteen minutes later, a Rylee Bull goal essentially put the game away for the Pomeroys.

Saturday marked the first time Midway was shutout since a scoreless tie at Indiana East last Oct. 13, and its first shutout loss since a 2-0 defeat at Point Park on Oct. 6, 2022.

Now 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the RSC, the Eagles have an immediate turnaround, hosting in-state opponent Berea in a non-conference match at 1 p.m. Sunday.
