RICHMOND, Ky. - The Chris McMillan era began in grand fashion for the Midway women's bowling team, which came out on top at the five-team Bulldog Bash in Richmond.
The two-day event concluded on Sunday with the Eagles on top with a final score of 5,500. Midway recorded 3,508 pins in team play and 1,992 in Baker to finish 120 points clear of runner-up Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.), the tournament's runner-up.
The win was earned via great balance at the top of the leader board. Afton Lords and Maggie Coleman tied for second with Avery Reeves right behind in fourth.
Lords and Coleman both topped 200 pins in two of four rounds, finishing with 777 pins and a 194.25 average. They came in behind only Laila Lambert of Union, who had a 792/198.
Reeves knocked down 726 pins for a four-game average of 181.5. Her third-game score of 225 was the second best round of any women's player in the entire tournament.
Elsewhere, Hailey Barnett finished 15th with a score of 633, while Gabrielle Gill was 21st with a 465.
This marks the second year in a row Midway has opened the season with a win, doing so in the Welcome Back Tournament in Columbus, Ohio last season.
The Eagles look to stay hot next weekend, when they cross into Indiana for the Columbia 300 Western Shootout in Indianapolis on Saturday and Sunday.
