BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Maggie Coleman earned a bronze medal performance in singles, then won another with
Avery Reeves in doubles competition on the opening day of the Mid-South Conference Bowling Championships on Thursday.
The duo then helped the third-seeded Eagles top sixth-seed Lindsey Wilson 4-1 in the opening round of team competition.
Coleman had a three-game score of 624 pins in singles play, coming in only behind the Pikeville duo of Victoria Hines (704) and Brianna Rogers (651). She was second in the field with a 219 in game one then also topped 200 in game two, rolling a 213.
The Eagles' third-place doubles score was 1,224, with Reeves finishing seventh in individual competition with a score of 600. Reeves topped 200 pins in each of the first two games as well, rolling a 201 in game one and a 214 in game two.
Three other Eagles finished in back-to-back-to-back positions within the top-15.
Arianna Peter was 13th with 573 pins,
Afton Lords 14th with 558 and
Hailey Barnett 15th with 552.
Midway then dominated the first three rounds of team play, even earning a 198-98 win in game three. The Eagles would stumble to a 165-138 loss in the fourth game but recovered with a clinching 137-122 win in the fifth.
Round two will open with a matchup against No. 2 Pikeville on Friday morning,
in a rematch of last season's championship match. The Bears opened team play with a 4-0 sweep of No. 7 Union.
ACADEMIC, CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER AWARDS ANNOUNCED
Coleman's productive day extended beyond the lanes, as she was also named Midway's Champion of Character and earned a spot on the Mid-South All-Academic Team.
She was joined on the Academic squad by Lords and
Gabrielle Gill.
