Eagles women place fifth, make major jump at ITC Sectionals

ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The Midway women's bowling team made a marked improvement in its return to the Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Tournament this weekend, ending the season with a fifth-place finish in a 20-team field.

The Eagles concluded the two-day, 48-game Baker competition with a final score of 8,848.

Midway jumped into the top-five with back-to-back great showings in games 15 and 16. The Eagles led all teams in both games, scoring a 258 in the 15th game and a 255 in the 16th.

While not able to top those scores the rest of the tournament, Midway was able to stay steady on the leaderboard, dropping down to sixth after 32 games before reclaiming the fifth spot in the ensuing round.

The Eagles came in seven spots higher than they did in a similar tournament a season ago, where they finished 12th at an ITC Sectional in Fort Worth, Texas.

FOUR COMPETE IN SINGLES PLAY

Midway also had four bowlers take part in the Intercollegiate Singles Sectional Qualifier on Friday.

Tops among that group was Gabrielle Gill, who came in 38th with a six-game score of 1,181, and an average of 196.8. Gill briefly held the lead in the 171-bowler field, as her 247 was the top score of the opening round.

Other Eagles to place were Maggie Coleman (57th, 1,140 pins, 190 average), Hailey Barnett (75th, 1,107, 184.5) and Arianna Peter (84th, 1,086, 181).
