BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - A 1-2 Friday eliminated the Midway women's bowling team from the Mid-South Conference Championships, and the Eagles will now have to wait to see if the receive an invitation to the NAIA Championships next month.
In a rematch of the 2024 championship final, the third-seeded Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in a best-of-seven against No. 2 Pikeville. After the Bears won twice to pull even, the Eagles won game five 175-165 to get on the cusp of victory.
It didn't happen, unfortunately, as UPike won a tight 195-188 battle in game six before dominating game seven, 185-131.
The first six games of an elimination-round matchup with Tennessee Wesleyan went exactly the same as the first matchup, but this time it was Midway that cruised through a seventh game, advancing via a 170-118 rout.
That set up another elimination match against top-seed Cumberland, that ended in a six-game loss.
After dropping the first two games, the Eagles responded with a 180-157 win in game three and a 158-135 win in game four, only for the Phoenix to rebound by winning the fifth 159-144 and the sixth 140-134.
Very much on the NAIA Tournament bubble, the Eagles will now wait to see if they receive an invite into the field for the second year in a row.
Regardless, the season isn't over, as Midway has been selected to compete in the Intercollegiate Team Sectional Tournament in Allen Park, Mich. on March 8-9.
