MIDWAY, Ky. - After opening with
back-to-back home blowouts to open
the 2024-25 season, the Midway women's basketball team one-upped itself Tuesday, earning a dominant 84-44 win over Miami Middletown (Ohio) at Marshall Gymnasium.
The 40-point win was the biggest Midway has earned under head coach
Kylee Gorby and its most lopsided triumph since a
99-44 win against Campbellsville Harrodsburg on Dec. 14, 2022.
On the night, 15 Midway players scored, with no one having a bigger impact that
A'Lyrica Hughes.
In just 17 minutes, Hughes had 17 points and six steals while putting up a perfect shooting night. Hughes was 6-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Defensively, the Eagles forced 26 turnovers, which they turned into 43 points, just one less than the Thunderhawks had as a team. Midway has forced at least 22 turnovers in all three of its home games this season, which they have won by an average of 32.6 points.
Atlantis White added 11 points while
Jermyra Christian had 10 as well as a game-high four assists. Another freshman also made the most of her playing time, as
Norah Miller scored eight points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds in just 12 minutes of action.
The 3-2 Eagles will take a big step up in competition in their return to the court Saturday, where they will travel to Williamsburg, Ky. to face the 8-1 University of the Cumberlands, the NAIA's No. 8-ranked team. The game will tip at 11 a.m.
