Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway women's basketball team returned to the court on Wednesday afternoon when they welcomed Campbellsville-Harrodsburg (Ky.) to Marshall Gymnasium.
Thanks to a suffocating defense that produced 22 Pioneer turnovers, the Eagles picked up a 94-44 victory over the visiting Pioneers.
With the win, Midway extends its current winning streak to four games and improves to 6-5 for the season while the Pioneers fall to 8-5.
The two squads traded buckets for the majority of the first quarter until a Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) layup and an Aleigha Mucker (Hardinsburg, Ky.) three-pointer extended the Eagles lead to 19-10. An Amoni White (St. Louis, Mo.) three on the Eagles last possession of the quarter gave them a 26-14 lead after 10 minutes of play.
In the second stanza, Midway embarked on a 22-3 run over the opening five minutes of the quarter to extend its lead to 31 points behind 10 points from Mucker. The Eagles continued to play stifling defense through the rest of the quarter and held a 57-24 advantage at halftime.
As the second half commenced, Midway opened on a 14-0 run to increase its lead to 47 with 5:10 remaining in the third quarter. They outscored the Pioneers 22-13 for the period and led 79-37 entering the final frame.
In the last quarter of regulation, an 11-2 run boosted the Eagles to a 51-point lead with 3:30 remaining. When the final horn sounded, Midway came away with a 94-44 victory.
For the contest, the Eagles were led by Mucker who scored 16 points and shot 4-5 from three-point land while Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) chipped in with 10 points. Overall, Midway shot 48.4 precent from the field and 47.6 percent from three-point territory.
On the glass, Sereniti Webb (Covington, Ky.) and Janae McCall (Wetumpka, Ala.) led the way with seven rebounds apiece. Miller dished out four assists for the afternoon while Kassidy Daugherty (Owensboro, Ky.) handed out three.
On the defensive front, 12 different Eagles recorded at least one steal as Midway forced the Pioneers into committing 22 turnovers for the afternoon. The Midway defense held to Pioneers to 26.9 percent shooting from the floor and 0-13 from three-point territory in the contest.
The Eagles will return to action on Friday evening when they host Asbury (Ky.) in a non-conference game. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET from Marshall Gymnasium.
