ELGIN, Ill. - After losing all three sets of a marathon opener against Olivet (Mich.), the Midway men's volleyball team couldn't get into a rhythm in its second match against Roosevelt (Ill.)

Playing on day two of the Judson Eagle Classic, the Eagles lost 25-23, 32-30, 27-25 to Olivet and 25-14, 25-15, 25-18 to Roosevelt.

OLIVET 3, MIDWAY 0

Though the final points came at varied times, each set of Saturday's opener ended in a similar fashion.

The Eagles held a 23-22 lead in the opener off an attack error, only for the Comets to answer with two kills and an ace to win the opening set.

Then, after fending off multiple set points in set two, the Eagles had one of their own, going up 30-29 on a service error. But Olivet was up to the challenge again, getting a Thayne Bilicki kill and service ace around an Eagle attack error to go up two sets.

Down by as many as five early, Midway continued to battle and once again had another set point, when a Joseph Boujaoude kill put the Eagles up 25-24. Sadly, that brought about a feeling of deja vu, as a service error led to a Quinn Dickerson kill, which led to an attack error and a third-consecutive, set-closing 3-0 run.

Despite the loss, Midway had some of its best individual statistical outputs of the year. Daniel Cogo had 34 assists while Jai'Den Chinnis had 13 kills, both of which were the most by any Eagle player this season.

ROOSEVELT 3, MIDWAY 0

The Eagles opened with a Chinnis kill, but that would prove to be their only lead of the first set. They then had a 4-3 lead early in the second before the Lakers again took control, eventually closing on a 4-0 run.

That momentum carried over into the third set, in which Roosevelt scored the first seven points.

Cogo had 21 more assists, which Boujaoude recording a team-best five kills.

Now 2-9, Midway returns to Mid-South Conference play with two matches next week. The first will be a 4:30 p.m. road matchup at Cumberland (Tenn.) Tuesday.
