MIDWAY, Ky - Having already taken several big steps forward since its formation in 2019, the Midway women's bowling program made its most substantial leap yet on Monday.
The Eagles were among the 12 teams selected to take part in the NAIA Bowling Championships. Midway earned one of six at-large bids into the tournament, which will be held in Sterling Heights, Mich. on March 21-23.
Barely 14 months removed from the first victory in program history, the Eagles have found a fast-track to success since. They opened 2023-24 by winning two of their first three tournaments, and even secured a No. 1 ranking in the national polls in November.
They then gave their at-large resume another big boost at the Mid-South Championships. Following an opening-round loss, the Eagles got all the way to the championship round, even pushing top-seeded Pikeville to a winner-take-all elimination match before closing out the tournament in second place.
All that was enough to impress the selection committee, and Midway will now get to see how it stacks up against the nation's best teams.
Day one of NAIA Nationals will begin will Baker play at 8 a.m. on March 21, with team rounds starting at 3 p.m. that day. Round 2-6 will be held on the 22nd with the finals coming the 23rd.
Before that, Midway will have a very challenging tune-up, as it travels to Forth Worth, Texas for the Intercollegiate Team Championships this Saturday and Sunday.
