Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway's offense had its second-best output of the season, as the Eagles snagged a fourth win in a row in a 15-5, run-rule victory over Brescia (Ky.) in the first game of a River States Conference baseball series Saturday.
After the Bearcats jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first inning, the Eagles put together an immediate response when Eli Glasscock led off the bottom half with a double, the came home after ensuing batter Zane Patton laid down a sacrifice bunt that turned into a throwing error.
Shane Taylor and Nick Eastham, who went a combined 7-for-9 with three RBIs each, then proceeded to give Midway the lead. Taylor made it 3-2 on a double before coming home to tie the game on a successful double steal, the first of three runs he scored. Eastham then put the Eagles up 4-3 with the first of his two doubles.
Eastahm, who went 4-for-4, also ended the game with a two-run double in the seventh inning that clinched the double-digit win.
In between, the Eagles also got a three-run DJ Morain home run in the second inning, an RBI double by Josh Halterman in the third and RBI, bases-loaded walks by Preston Howard and Eli Glasscock in the sixth.
Barrett McGill went 3-for-4 and reached base four times. All four times he reached resulted in runs by Garrett Worthington, who was inserted in as his courtesy runner.
The Eagles' 15 runs and 16 hits were both the second most they've scored in a game this season, topped only by the 19 and 17 they had in a March 3 game against Alice Lloyd.
It was also continuation of Midway's dominance against Brescia, who the Eagles have now beaten eight-straight times, including a record-setting 23-3 win in their previous meeting.
CLARK SETS NEW STRIKEOUT MARK
Eagle starting pitcher Owen Clark made history in the win, breaking the program's single-season strikeout record.
Clark, who fanned seven batters Saturday, now has 92 strikeouts for the season. This breaks the previous mark of 90, set by Blake Kincaid in 2022.
Midway also got one of its best bullpen outings of the year, with John Davis throwing three scoreless innings of relief.
Now 16-21 overall and 8-11 in the RSC, the Eagles host Brescia twice more Sunday, with game one of a scheduled doubleheader set to begin at noon. Sunday will also serve as Midway's senior day.
