Midway to face Shawnee State in opening round of RSC Baseball Championships

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Midway will open the River States Conference Baseball Championships at 7 p.m. against Shawnee State on Thursday.

Midway will play as the third seed in the six-team field while Shawnee with be the fourth. The teams finished with identical 16-11 records in conference play, but the Eagles earned the higher seed via tie-breaker, thanks to their three-game sweep of the Bears on April 3-4.

That will be the final game of the opening day of competition. Play will begin Thursday with an 11 a.m. matchup between top-seeded Indiana Southeast and No. 6 Indiana Kokomo. Then, at 3 p.m., No. 2 Oakland City will face No. 5 Brescia.

The Eagles enter the postseason with an overall record of 28-19, tying the 2023 national qualifying team for most wins by a Midway squad in a single season. The 28 regular seasons wins are also a program record.

The double-elimination tournament is slated to run until Sunday.
