WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Midway archers headed to the University of the Cumberlands for two weekend tournament, taking part in the USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals Thursday and Friday, and the Mid-South Outdoor Championships Saturday.
TARGET REGIONALS
Carrie Booth and McKenna Harrington opened competition by recording top-seven performances in their individual ranking rounds, with Booth placing sixth in women's fixed pin, and Harrington taking seventh in women's compound.
Booth finished with a two-round score of 639, the best score of her college career. She shot a 318 in round one and a 321 in round two.
Harrington finished with a 659, recording round scores of 329 and 330 respectively.
In Friday's individual round, Jessica Badgett had a breakout performance in women's fixed pin, winning three straight matches to stay undefeated until the semifinals.
After opening with a 139-135 win over Natalie Holton, Badgett won her next two matches thanks to surges in the final round.
She outscored Kaitlyn Shields 29-25 in round five to earn a 140-139 win, then closed by outscoring Cammie Shuman 27-23 to win their quarterfinal match 130-128.
Badgett finished fourth overall after losses in the semifinals and bronze medal matches.
MID-SOUTH OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Midway finished eighth overall in the 10-team field with five total points, all of them scored by Harrington, who finished fourth after losing in a one-arrow shootoff during the bronze medal match.
Harrington opened with back-to-back wins over Lindsey Wilson's Emma Kist (137-133) and Union's Ruthie Masengale (138-134). After losing 144-135 to Union's Ashely Coffing, she and Marissa Harding played to a 135 tie after the fifth and final round in their battle for third.
Eventually, Harding would get the best of Harrington in the shootoff, as her shot ended up closer to the target.
This was Midway's best performance at the Outdoor Championships since 2019. Booth, Harrington and Badgett will all take part USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals in Statesboro, Ga. on May 16-19.
In addition to her strong performance, Booth was also honored as Midway's representative on the Mid-South Champions of Character team, and was one of four Eagles to make the Academic All-Conference squad. She was joined on the academic team by Laurel Brandenburg, Hannah Marion and Jill Mielenhausen.
