Box Score COLUMBUS, Ind. - Great efforts by Eli Glasscock at the plate and Owen Clark on the mound got Midway baseball back in the win column for the first time in four weeks.
Glasscock went 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Clark tied his career high for strikeouts, as the Eagles snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 7-4 win over IUPUC (Ind.) in the opening game of a River States Conference series Friday.
Glasscock, who led off the game with a single, followed that up with a two-run single in the second, expanding Midway's lead to 3-0 after Britten Robinson opened the scoring with an RBI single of his own.
He also drove in a run on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly, then scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning and a Shane Taylor sacrifice fly in the ninth.
That proved to be enough offense for Clark, who struck out 12 Crimson Pride batters. Friday was the fourth double-digit strikeout game of the season for Clark and equaled his previous career-high, set in a March 2 win over Alice Lloyd.
Taking a seemingly comfortable 7-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth, things got a little uncomfortable for the Eagles, when a one-out, two-run double by Ethan Guire trimmed the deficit to three.
But luckily, Jesse Komoroski came in and closed things out, forcing a Will Lewis groundout before striking out Wyatt Sutton to secure his third save of the season.
Robinson also had two hits for the Eagles, who improve to 5-11 in the RSC while dropping IUPUC to 2-14.
Friday was the first ever meeting between the two programs. They will conclude a three-game series in Columbus with a doubleheader tomorrow, beginning at noon.
