LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After qualifying for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in her first college meet, Midway freshman
Maddi Reed put together an even more impressive encore.
Reed hit the NAIA National 'A' Qualifying standard in pole vault, topping out at 3.76 meters as the Eagles took part in the Bellarmine Open on Friday. Team scores were not recorded, as Midway competed in a field that featured six NCAA Division-I programs.
Reed finished the event in fifth place, the top finish by a NAIA competitor, and eclipsed the 3.70 mark required to hit the 'A' standard. She actually tied Louisville's Iliana Triantafyllou for the fourth-best height, but lost on tie-breaker, as Triantafyllou cleared 3.76 on her first try, with Reed clearing on her third.
The freshman from Shelbyville, Ky. has come out on fire to begin her college career, as she also hit the National 'B' standard
in the season-opening Centre First Chance in December, topping out at 3.60 meters.
Nevaeh Brown, her five-time All-American teammate, was sixth in pole vault Friday, finishing at 3.61. Brown hit the 'A' standard (3.70) at Centre.
Trinity Gottler had the highest finish for the Eagles Friday, placing fourth in the shot put at 11.57.
On the track side,
